Benue salary wage bill third highest in Nigeria -Audi Ogbe

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief AuduOgbe, says Benue State salary wage bill is the third highest in the country.
Ogbe announced this in Makurdi at the opening of the First Benue Entrepreneurship Summit, with the theme “Made in Benue is possible”.
He explained that the difficulty being faced in salary payment in the state was largely due to the high wage bill inherited from the immediate past government for which Governor Ortom and his administration were consistently criticised.
The minister said the summit initiated by the Governor’s wife was important because it would help young people, especially those participating in the event to learn to be independent minded and self- sufficient, lauding Dr.Eunice Ortom for uplifting the youth through her pet project.
Meanwhile, Governor SamueOrtom has announced the release of N100million to support youth entrepreneurship development programme in the state.
Announcing this at the summit Ortomsaid the money, which is sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as loan,would be disbursed to interested persons as interest free to enable them pay with less pains.
 On herdsmen hazard, the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Samuel KanuUche, said it is a pity that no herdsman has been arrested since they started killing innocent people across the country, adding that the church believes the present herdsmen that kill and ravage communities in Nigeria are different from the Nigeria herdsmen the country has known before.
He said, “Their mode of operation is similar to that of Boko-Haram and we suspect that they have strong connections with ISIS, the council therefore encourages the federal government to intensify efforts at stamping out the menace of the herdsmen”.

Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. Uzodinma, who expressed displeasure with the managing director for not honouring the committee’s two previous invitations, said the information on the vessels was imperative and must be available within four days. NIMC chief faults identification system

Impact of $3b bond on debt ’ll be modest

T he Federal Government’s plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills, if approved, will have a modest impact on broad debt sustainability indicators, experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC Nigeria) have said. In line with Federal Government’s debt management strategy to rebalance its debt portfolio for domestic and foreign debt, from the current 69 per cent: 3 1 per cent to a targeted 60per cent: 40 per cent, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved a plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills. $2.1b arms scandal: Fleeing ex-governor loses choice hotel in Singapore to mistress

Homes submerged in Lagos, Suleja, Ibadan Ikoyi, Lekki, others thrown into darkness Floods hit many Nigerian cities after long hours of rainfall at the weekend. There were deaths. Homes were  flooded. Eleven people died in Suleja and other towns in Niger State. Many parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, were flooded.
