Akeredolu mourns death of Bisi Akande wife’s

Ondo State governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), commiserates with the former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, over the death of his wife.
Akeredolu described the deceased as a disciplined, God-fearing and understanding woman who stood behind her husband to record landmark successes in both private and public services.
The governor asked the Akande family, the people of Osun State and Nigerians to take solace in the fact the deceased lived a good and fulfilled life.
According to the governor, the late Mrs Omowunmi Akande will be missed by all those whose lives she touched in her walk through life.
Akeredolu, therefore, wished the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Confab on livestock will address farmers/herdsmen clashes – Osinbajo

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said on Wednesday the ongoing National Conference on livestock would address persistent clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the country. Osinbajo stated this during the livestock stakeholders’ conference organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and other stakeholders in Abuja. He said the conference was a deliberate plan to converge all key stakeholders in the livestock industry in order to provide a lasting solution to several challenges confronting the industry. Osinbajo said the effort would eventually contribute to national security, adding that the Federal Government has established agro-rangers to protect ranches. Saraki urges all to be calm over new school curriculum

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has urged all stakeholders in  education to remain calm on the new nine-year Basic Education Curriculum to enable the National Assembly to look into various issues involved. Saraki made the call while receiving a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. He assured the delegation that the Senate Committee on Basic Education would investigate the complaints by the association on the curriculum with a view to making it acceptable and satisfactory to all religions. Army rescues six abducted herdsmen

The Nigerian Army said on Saturday that six herdsmen abducted by Boko Haram insurgents at Kamuya community of Yobe State have been rescued. A statement issued by Brig. Gen. Sani Kukasheka said the rescued herdsmen were reunited with their families. Kukasheka said the troops had killed two insurgents and recovered ammunition after a gun duel with the terrorists. “On Friday, September 8, 2017, at about 7.30 a.m. troops of Defence Company, 27 Brigade Nigerian Army, on Operation Lafiya Dole deployed at Kamuya, Yobe State, received report from some herdsmen that suspected Boko Haram terrorists abducted six persons from their village. “The troops in conjunction with local vigilante familiar with the area trailed the terrorists up to Mangari village about 20 kilometres away from Kamuya. “The troops exchanged fire with the insurgents, neutralized two of them and rescued the abducted persons. National Library to organise readership promotion campaign in FCT‎

Senate passes Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill

The Senate on Thursday passed the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill, 2017, the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports. The bill was passed following the adoption of a report of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment on the Bill. Presenting the report, Chairman of the committee, Sen. Fatima Raji-Rasaki, said the bill would help to develop businesses in Nigeria. Uba debunks PDP defection

Sen. Andy Uba says he has not defected from  the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the outcome of the Anambra governorship primaries. NASS failed to address key issues on budget – Fashola

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Monday said the National Assembly’s response to his observation on the 2017 Budget did not address fundamental issues raised on funds allocated to  key ministries. Fashola, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Hakeem Bello, expressed concern over the recourse to name-calling and personal attack by the federal lawmakers, insisting the legislators lack power to insert items in budget prepared by the executive. The minister said he was worried that spokespersons of the Senate and House of Representatives failed to state the reason the National Assembly cut allocations to key infrastructure projects of the ministry.
