NTDC develops roadmap to boost domestic tourism

The Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) has developed a roadmap to promote tourism assets.
A unique brand logo will be used as a marketing tool.
Speaking with reporters in Abuja at the weekend,the Director-General of the NTDC, Mr Folorunsho Folarin-Coker, said: “The brand is an ambitious attempt at promoting tourism in Nigeria that aims to shape the narrative on Nigeria as a major destination for tourism, hospitality, arts and entertainment in Africa.”
He said the roadmap would showcase the vibrant and friendly energy of Nigerians through different creative expressions,leverage on the abundant soft power to celebrate Nigeria’s heritage and promote the natural and cultural tourism assets, destinations and people.
According to Coker, the “Tour Nigeria” brand was conceived to drive domestic consumption of Nigeria’s tourism products, create new tourism markets, add to the nation’s GDP, create employment, and increase spending in the economy.
“We are proudly the most populous black nation on Earth,home to the second largest film industry on the globe whilst also being the fashon, technological and creative hub in Africa,” he said
To drive the initiative, a strategic five-point action plan with the acronym CHIEF was concieved. CHIEF represents Corporate Governance & Regulations; Human Capital Development; Infrastructural Development; Events and Marketing; and Finance & Investment.
He said the key components to tourism such as travel,accommodation, hospitality and entertainment would be explored with airlines,hotels, car hire services, tour operators and others to bring out affordable package tours to encourage Nigerians to tour Nigeria.

Gunmen kill policeman, NSCDC operative in Bayelsa

Gunmen have killed a policeman and an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bayelsa State. The assailants, suspected to be sea pirates, attacked a team of security officials on Friday on Ekebiri Waterways in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. The attack came three weeks after suspected Niger Delta militants ambushed a houseboat operated by the Joint Task Force and killed a soldier and a civilian crew member. Confirming the latest attack, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Asinim Butswat, said a Tugboat, towing a barge with a combined team of policemen from the Nigerian Inland waterways, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, and civilians onboard was attacked by suspected sea pirates at about 6.45pm on Friday. A gastroenterologist, Dr Ganiyat Oyeleke, says it is possible for a patient to have an ulcer without pain, even as many victims experience severe pain in their stomach. Reps praise NIPCO for boosting downstream

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has commended NIPCO for its acquisition of ExxonMobil’s 60 per cent equity in Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc. According to the lawmakers, the acquisition has demystified the impression of International Oil Companies (IOCs) that it is difficult for indigenous oil companies to market petroleum products. Committee Chairman Hon. Joseph Akinlaja made the commendation when the committee visited  NIPCO Plc headquarters in Lagos. He said the feat is a boost for higher indigenous stake in the oil and gas industry. “There is no rocket science in selling white products as the pioneer foreign companies make it look like it is an impossible terrain due to their monopoly in the market. “Among the seven foreign companies that ventured into the downstream sector, only Total Plc still remains. Alleged N3.2b laundering: Ex-governor gets new trial date

THE trial of a former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu was stalled yesterday due to the absence of Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos. Justice Idris was said to be attended the ongoing judges’ conference in Abuja, which is held at the beginning of every new legal year. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned Kalu, Udeh Udeogu and Slok Nigeria Limited on 34 counts of laundering N3.2 billion. They pleaded not guilty. The alleged diversions were done between August 13,2003 and January 12, 2005, the prosecution said. The EFCC accused Slok of conniving with one Emeka Abone, said to be at large, to help Kalu retain the alleged stolen funds in its accounts. The offence is contrary to Section 17 (c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2003 and punishable under Section 16 of the same Act. The trial has been fixed for October 3 to 6.

Developer assures of Smart City’s adequate sewage control
