Ogun discharges Lassa fever survivor

Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, has said the 20-year-old boy diagnosed with Lassa fever has been discharged from the isolation centre at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) at Idi-Aba in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Ipaye, who addressing reporters at the centre in Abeokuta, said the boy was brought into the state hospital at Ijaye and was transferred to the isolation centre at FMC at Idi-Aba.
The commissioner said the boy was taken to the centre with complications, adding that he had 20 per cent chances of survival because he had serious renal complication, which could have led to his death.
He said: “Having being successfully treated and fully recovered from the disease, with results of the last two tests carried out, indicating negative, the boy was free to go home and join his family.”
Ipaye stressed the need for continuous monitoring of the 106 persons currently being quarantined for having contacts with suspected patients.
The commissioner said the state’s Department of Public Health would continue to monitor and guide against any likely infections.

Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. NIMC chief faults identification system

NATIONAL Identity Management Commission (NIMC)  Director-General, Aliyu Aziz, has faulted the identification system, arguing that it cannot foster economic growth. Impact of $3b bond on debt ’ll be modest

T he Federal Government’s plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills, if approved, will have a modest impact on broad debt sustainability indicators, experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC Nigeria) have said. In line with Federal Government’s debt management strategy to rebalance its debt portfolio for domestic and foreign debt, from the current 69 per cent: 3 1 per cent to a targeted 60per cent: 40 per cent, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved a plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills.
