Teenagers get N150,000 bail

A Lagos court has granted N150,000 bail to three teenagers, who allegedly brandished weapons, including cutlasses, in public and threatened violence.
The accused, Joseph Michael, 19; Eniola Joseph, 15; and Wasiu Ojo, 15, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful assembly and unlawful possession of weapons at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The Magistrate, Aro Lambo granted the accused N50,000 bail each with one surety each.
He said the sureties must be employed, with evidence of tax payment.
The prosecutor, Anthonia Osayande, told the court the accused, with others at large, committed the offences on or before August 22 at 9 a.m., Oshindero Street, Itire, Lagos.
He said the accused and others at large held an unlawful assembly and displayed weapons, such as cutlasses in public, frightening people.
The offences contravened sections 45, 51 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The case was adjourned till October 5 for mention.

$14.1b forex deals attract investors

Foreign investors’ confidence in the economy is rising. The feat is attributed to the $14.1 billion combined foreign exchange (forex) deals from the Investors’ & Exporters’ FX Window – I&E FX Window- and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) weekly dollar interventions,  The Nation  has learnt. The I&E FX Window has since April attracted $7.6 billion foreign investors’ cash into the economy. Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. NIMC chief faults identification system

Impact of $3b bond on debt ’ll be modest

T he Federal Government’s plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills, if approved, will have a modest impact on broad debt sustainability indicators, experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC Nigeria) have said.
