Kogi flags off property tax implementation

Kogi State on Friday commenced the implementation of its tenement and ground rent across the state capital.
Alhaji Saliu Sule, the Director, Tax Audit, Kogi State Internal Revenue Board, during the flag off at the Revenue House, noted that unutilized exiting laws allows for the collection of the ground rent.
He called on residents to support the initiative, so that Kogi become sustainable in the face of dwindling accruable federal allocation to states.
According to him: “What obtains is that business operations have been taxed based on the law, but those occupying private or residential premises are not. So, what we’ll do now is identify such and incorporate them.
“A lot of us lament the absence of government’s presence in our areas, yet we fail to appreciate the enormous responsibilities of government, and our duties as residents. Which in turn, entitle us to demand from government what it committed to undertake”.
