IBB owes Nigerians apology, not calls for restructuring – Oshiomhole

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, said on Thursday that former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd), owes Nigerians an apology for helping to bring the country to present level. Oshiomhole also said current clamour for diversification of the nation’s economy cannot succeed unless it begins with the oil and gas sector which he said employ about 40 percent of the working population in the country. The ex-governor, who spoke through the General Secretary of National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers, Comrade Issa Aremu, at the 5th Triennial Delegates Conference of the Petroleum And Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) in Abuja, said it was under the Babangida regime that “the economy was restructured and the naira devalued.” Oshiomhole spoke on the theme: “Emerging Trends in the Oil and Gas Industry and its Impacts on Labour Movement in Nigeria.’’ The former governor argued that a lot of misinformation was being fe...

A private entity, Nigus, has concluded plans to assemble electric vehicles  in the coun–try by 2020. Its Chairman, Prince Malik Ado Ibrahim, who made this known in Abuja at the weekend, said he was pushing this line of investment to save Nigeria from becoming a dumping ground for hydrocarbon vehicles in the future. He said the company would begin with importation of the cars next year, before the eventual manufacturing phase that would follow thereafter. Before then, Nigus plans to import the vehicle by the end of next year. Ibrahim said there would be two types of electric vehicles – the wholly electric and the hybrid: “High grade versions, which are the engines, gasoline engine and electric which are also phenomenal vehicles to use in case one isn’t available, you could always use the other and switch between both.” He said the idea to kickstart the venture, followed from his visit to China, where he found the  opportunity for Nigeria and Africa to start the next fr...

NOLLYWOOD actress, Oge Okoye, has defended herself, saying she is all natural, without any artificial addition to her body enhancement. The actress had earlier posted a photograph on Instagram, but it appears her fans would have none of what was on display. Some of the comments suggest that the actress padded her buttocks but she was quick to counter them. “I am natural! I did not wear buttocks pad. How gullible can peeps be? Or will I say funny, differentiate the skin from the butt pad. It’s just a see-thru legging,” Okoye posted. The actress who used to be one of the frequent faces in the movie industry is back on the movie set shooting for both home movies and soaps. Oge Okoye was born in London. She later moved to live in Lagos with her family. She graduated from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka with a degree in Theatre Arts.

Kenya: Police foils planned Somali militants attack

The Kenyan police said it arrested six men suspected of planning an attack sponsored by the al Shabaab militant group from neighboring Somalia. In recent weeks, the East African nation has lost 20 officers in various attacks, mostly on deserted roads in the vast northern region bordering Somalia, in which the militants used Improvised Explosive Devices. Joseph Boinnet, the Inspector-General Police, said in a statement that two of the suspects were Kenyans and the others were Somali nationals. Police also seized assembled explosives, four suicide vests and bomb-making materials such as TNT. “The six had been dispatched from Burhanche in Somalia by their commanders to launch attacks in Kenya,” Boinnet said. Kenyan security forces worked with their counterparts in Somalia to foil the attack and to capture the suspects. The captured men were being interrogated to establish the extent of the entire network, Boinnet said. Kenya has faced a constant security challenge from ac...

S. Africa’s Malema says no fewer than 60 ANC MPs will turn on Zuma

Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party (EFF) said 60 African National Congress (ANC) members in South Africa’s parliament will back a no-confidence vote against President Jacob Zuma if the ballot is secret. Toppling Zuma requires 50 of the 249 ANC Members of Parliament (MPs) to support the no-confidence motion and some have said publicly they want him removed, including former finance minister Pravin Gordhan, whose sacking in March triggered damaging debt ratings downgrades. South Africa’s national assembly has 400 members. Malema, a firebrand politician known for his colorful language, said in an interview, he had received personal commitments that ANC MPs would dump Zuma. Malema, a former head of the ANC’s Youth League before his expulsion from the party, could plausibly still have plenty of contacts in the organization. “I personally spoke to more than 60 MPs of the ANC who have committed that if we give them a secret ballot they will deliver,” Ma...
