Mendy Signs For Lorient After Being Cleared Of Rape

  Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has signed for Ligue 1 side Lorient five days after being cleared of rape. The left-back, 29, whose City contract expired in the summer, has signed a two-year deal with the French club. He was  cleared of raping a woman  and attempting to rape another at Chester Crown Court on Friday. That followed a trial in January when Mendy was  cleared of six counts of rape  and one of sexual assault. Mendy became the  world’s most expensive defender  when City paid Monaco £52m to sign the France defender in 2017. City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain described him as “one of the world’s best full-backs” when the highly rated defender signed. Amnesty trained 14,366 ex-agitators, says Boroh

The Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh has said about 14,366 ex-agitators were trained in the programme. Gen. Boroh spoke at News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja, yesterday. He explained their capacities has been developed in agriculture, automobile engineering, and aviation, with a further look at the sports sector. “As we speak, we have trained over 5,000 in education-capacity development, and over 22, 000 in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.” He said the programme granted amnesty to 30,000 ex-agitators of Niger Delta. Gen. Boroh said from now till December 17, more ex-agitators would be graduating from the scheme. According to him, its education programme is winding down and there is need to graduate more beneficiaries. Killer pastor still in custody – Police

Reacting to speculations that a pastor arrested for the alleged abduction and murder of a baby girl last week in Calabar, Cross River, has been released, the state police command said on Tuesday the suspect is still in custody and would be charged to court. The pastor of God’s Commandments Ministry along Atamunu Street, Calabar, Mr. Tony Obo, was arrested last Thursday for allegedly abducting and killing a one- year- and -seven month old baby, Success, for ritual purposes. The police said items recovered from the pastor included a human heart suspected to be that of the abducted baby, some charms, fetish items and pictures of various persons among others. A branch of the church, along Abua Street in Calabar, was demolished by enraged residents on Friday. Peterside: Maritime University will start academic activities in October

ACADEMIC activities will take off at the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, in Delta State,  in October, the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dakuku Peterside, has assured.
