Barcelona to host Chapecoense in friendly at Nou Camp in August

Spanish football giants FC Barcelona will host Chapecoense in a friendly on Aug. 7 to pay tribute to those who died when the Brazilian club’s plane crashed last November.
Only three of the club’s players survived the crash on Nov. 29 in the Medellin region of Colombia when 71 of 77 people on board died.
FC Barcelona, in a statement, said the game would help Chapecoense “rebuild institutionally and recover the competitive level it had before the tragedy”.
The winner of the game at the Nou Camp will receive the Joan Gamper Trophy.
The annual invitational game is traditionally where FC Barcelona unveil their team for the new season to home fans.
The crash happened as Chapecoense were travelling to face Colombian side Atletico Nacional in the final match of the Copa Sudamericana.
Defenders Neto and Alan Ruschel, and goalkeeper Jackson Follmann, who had his leg amputated, were among the six survivors, while 19 players and the coaching staff died.
They signed 25 new players this season and promoted nine from the youth team.

Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. Uzodinma, who expressed displeasure with the managing director for not honouring the committee’s two previous invitations, said the information on the vessels was imperative and must be available within four days. NIMC chief faults identification system

Impact of $3b bond on debt ’ll be modest

T he Federal Government’s plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills, if approved, will have a modest impact on broad debt sustainability indicators, experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC Nigeria) have said. Homes submerged in Lagos, Suleja, Ibadan Ikoyi, Lekki, others thrown into darkness Floods hit many Nigerian cities after long hours of rainfall at the weekend. There were deaths. Homes were  flooded. Eleven people died in Suleja and other towns in Niger State. Many parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, were flooded.
