Epidemic of illicit wiretaps

IN the past few days, the social media has been buzzing with stories of a supposed telephone conversation between Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State and Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State on the state of the nation. In the conversation, a vitriolic Gov Shettima called the bluff of separatist movements, particularly south-easterners, and ramblingly advocated for synergy between the Southwest and the North. But as the aides of the Borno governor said — and they are more believable — the voice on the supposed telephone call neither sounded like that of the governor nor did the cadence resemble anything close to that of the governor. Police kill robber for shooting DPO

Two members of a robbery gang that opened fire on the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogbere Division, Adeyinka Akingbade, have been arrested by operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ogun State. The Nation  learnt that Adeyinka was injured by the suspects when he and a team of policemen responded to a distress call that robbers invaded a hotel in Itele-Ijebu. The suspects ambushed him and shot him at close range. Spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement that Police Commissioner Ahmed Iliyasu, on getting a report on the shooting, directed FSARS, led by Uba Adam, to arrest the hoodlums. Said he: “The FSARS team swung into action and their efforts paid off after six hours when the robbers’ hideout was located. “On sighting the police, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun battle, which lasted about an hour. “At the end of the encounter, two of the robbers, Wasiu Ganiyu and Azeez Komolafe, were arrested. Their leader, Mungo Park, was shot dead. ...

A report in  The Guardian  said:  ”Early bystanders claimed Evans had exchanged gunshots with the officials before he was captured. BEDC, Thames Energy, Delta seal 20Mw plant deal

Efforts at ensuring that over 200 commercial entities in Ozoro Local Government Area of Delta State benefit from power supply have got a boost as the Benin Electricity Distribution Plc (BEDC) signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thames Energy Limited and the Delta State Government on the construction of 20megawatts (Mw) power plant. The MoU signing ceremony, which took place at BEDC head office in Benin, Edo State capital, signaled a tripartite partnership that is expected to galvanize the potentials of several commercial entities in addition to rejuvenating the economy of the Isoko people, as well as make the area an economic hub for Delta State.
