Top ‘Boko Haram terrorist’, Aliko, arrested

A suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Aliyu Ahmed, alias Aliko is now in army custody following his arrest in Bauchi State.
Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, confirmed yesterday that Ahmed was arrested on Friday by troops of 33 Brigade, following a tip-off in Yuga village in Toro Local Government Area of the state, where he has been in hiding.
The army also said it intercepted four child traffickers and 19 under aged children in Yobe State.
“He was found to be in possession of one single barrel gun and one Dane gun.
“During preliminary interrogation, he confessed that he actively participated in several Boko Haram terrorists’ attacks and also owned an AK-47 Rifle which he lost during one of the attacks they carried out in 2016. “His interrogation continued,” Usman said.
He said the four traffickers, who were arrested by troops of Bravo Company, 120 Battalion at Katarko, were conveying 19 children from Potiskum to Garin Tuwo, Bungai and Buni Yadi in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe and Galarabala in Biu Local Government Area of Borno.
“Both the suspected traffickers and their victims have been moved to the Brigade Headquarters for transfer to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons,” the army spokesman said.

U.S pledges support for FG’s anti-graft campaign

The United States on Wednesday reiterated its commitment to the Federal Government’s anti-corruption drive, saying it would continue to offer material and intelligence supports to ensure Nigeria is rid of graft. Melaye’s recall: INEC to release revised timetable on Monday

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it will on Monday release a revised timetable for the recall of senator representing Kogi West Dino Melaye. This followed Monday’s court ruling, which gave the commission the nod to continue with the recall process. With the legal hurdle removed, National Commissioner and member, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) Mallam Mohammed Haruna said yesterday in a statement that INEC will release the revised timetable on Monday. INEC had commenced the process of Melaye’s recall following a petition by a group from his senatorial zone. But the senator went to court to halt the process. Police arrest two over unlawful possession of firearms

Two suspects have been arrested in Pasali Kuje Area Council of FCT over unlawful possession of firearms. The suspects – Suleiman Salisu and Salisu Awolu – were arrested by police detectives at about 03:15 a.m. on Monday. Exhibits recovered from them included one locally-made pistol and a cutlass. The spokesman of the FCT police command, Anjuguri Manzah, disclosed these in a statement on Tuesday. The statement reads: “As part of proactive crime prevention measures deployed by the FCT Police Command to make the Federal Capital Territory safe and secure for all, police detectives attached to Kuje Division acting on tip have arrested two suspects over unlawful possession of firearm.” “The FCT Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, has ordered that the suspects and exhibits be transferred to the Command Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.”

Killer pastor still in custody – Police

Reacting to speculations that a pastor arrested for the alleged abduction and murder of a baby girl last week in Calabar, Cross River, has been released, the state police command said on Tuesday the suspect is still in custody and would be charged to court. The pastor of God’s Commandments Ministry along Atamunu Street, Calabar, Mr. Tony Obo, was arrested last Thursday for allegedly abducting and killing a one- year- and -seven month old baby, Success, for ritual purposes. The police said items recovered from the pastor included a human heart suspected to be that of the abducted baby, some charms, fetish items and pictures of various persons among others. No tension in Kaduna, say govt, police

Kaduna State government and the police yesterday dispelled rumour of tension. There had been rumour from outside the state since Monday that Kaduna was on fire, making relations of residents to phone their loved ones. At a meeting with Igbo and Yoruba communities, Police Commissioner Agyole Abeh advised residents to go about their activities, as there was no crisis. He said: “There is no crisis in Kaduna. The state is peaceful. I advise people to go about their activities. “Don’t be apprehensive, the rumour is baseless and unfounded. Battle over traditional stool claims one life in Ondo

One person has reportedly died in the crisis  in Ugbo community  at Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, over the Olugbo of Ugbo stool. Property estimated at millions of naira were said to have been destroyed. It was learnt that buildings, vehicles, boats and other valuables were set ablaze during the clash between supporters of the Olugbo, Oba Frederick Akinruntan, and the former occupant of the stool, Adebanjo Mafimisebi. A middle-aged woman, Bidemi Mafimisebi, and others were reportedly injured in the clash, which lasted several hours. It was learnt that Mafimisebi, who was removed by the Supreme Court on January 12, after occupying the throne for 25 years, was allegedly scheming to return to the throne. After Mafimisebi’s removal, the Ojadele Ruling House, headed by Prince Robert Nana, unanimously selected and presented Akinruntan as the candidate for the vacant stool on November 4, 2008.
