Eight bodies found under collapsed building in Italy

Authorities have recovered the bodies of all eight people who were previously reported missing after a four-storey building collapsed on the southern outskirts of Naples.
National fire brigade spokesman Luca Cari said  rescuers pulled an eighth body out of the rubbles on Saturday.
He noted that a total of eight people were reported missing on Friday.
“Rescuers had continually combed through the rubbles since the building collapsed at around 6:30 am (0430 GMT) on Friday.
“We recovered all the bodies, we found them all, dead,” Cari said.
He said search and rescue operations had ended and that the eight victims included two young brothers, aged 14 and eight.
Neighbours said there were no sound of any explosion and suggested that construction work had caused the collapse.
According to local media, renovation work was being carried out on the lower levels of the property and residents in higher floors had complained of damage to their apartments.

Ajimobi flags off N70bn Ibadan Circular Road construction

CBN, banks bicker over slow disbursement of SMEs funds

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)  and lenders involved in the disbursement of N220 billion Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs) funds to small businesses have traded blames over the slow pace of the disbursement of the funds. The Group Head, Specialised SMEs of Fidelity Bank, Mr Ndubuisi Onuoha blamed the CBN for the slow pace of disbursement of the funds when asked by a participant why the bank was yet to fund his business over a year after meeting all the requirements. “Fidelity Bank has done over N3billion disbursements; CBN is slowing things down; there is close to N2 billion pending with the CBN; we are doing everything to get the funds for SMEs. Suspected Boko Haram attack kills two in Maiduguri-Damboa highway

The Police command in Borno has confirmed the death of two persons in a suspected Boko Haram attack along the Maiduguri-Damboa highway. Mr Damian Chukwu, the Borno Police Commissioner, who confirmed this on Tuesday said that the dead persons included a police man and a truck driver. “You would recall that since the Maiduguri-Damboa highway was reopened, motorists ply the road strictly on military escort. “Initially it was only the military that provides the escort, but later the police was invited to join,” Chukwu said. Obiano pays 385 retirees after 38 years

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano yesterday announced the payment of pensions and gratuities to 385 retirees, after 38 years. It was learnt that the governor had released N700 million while payment will begin at the end of June and last till May 2018. Commissioner for Information and Strategic Planning, Ogbuefi Tony Nnacheta, addressed reporters yesterday in Awka, the state capital, on the development. Some corporations whose retirees have died include Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) and Anambra Newspapers Company, publishers of National Light. Nnacheta said those involved had been suffering for years, adding that the money had been provided to stop their agony. ECOWAS to set up solidarity fund to rebuild North East

Mr. Edward Singhatey, the Vice President, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission says that plans are on-going to establish a solidarity Fund for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the North-East. Swiss court rejects Platini’s appeal against FIFA ban

Switzerland’s highest court rejected former European football boss Michel Platini’s bid to overturn his four-year ban from the sport over ethics violations, the court said on Thursday. The Swiss Federal Court confirmed a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling last year that upheld Platini’s ban. It was a decision stemming from a 2 million Swiss francs ($2.08 million) payment the former French football great received from FIFA in 2011. Platini, who has denied wrongdoing, was banned from football along with Sepp Blatter, the former FIFA head who approved the payment.
