FG, entertainment experts to discuss financing Nollywood at summit

Entertainment experts and officials from the federal ministry of information, culture and tourism will meet to discuss ways of ensuring access to long and short-term finance by the movie industry.

The creative summit, which has been scheduled to hold on July 17 and 18, will take place at the EKO Hotel Convention Centre, Lagos.

Speakers expected at the summit include Kene Mkparu (Film House Group), Jason Njoku (Iroko TV), Alex Okosi (MTV Base), Adeola Bali (finance expert), Kemi Sulu (Live Nation), Sanjay Kumar (media guru), among others.

“The Creative Nigeria Summit is a free two-day event organized by the federal ministry of information, culture and tourism, in conjunction with Think Tank Media and Advertising ltd, to take the industry to a golden era with smooth access to short and long term financing, world class management and local and international distribution,” a statement from the organisers read.

The Creative Nigeria Summit will feature plenary sessions and presentations on themes related to the challenging issues in the creative industry.

“They include – Fundamentals of financing film, television and music production; marketing film, television and music production; the cinema business in Nigeria, case study of Film House Group; the Bank of Industry experience in financing film (Nollyfund); government’s role in funding the creative industry.”

Television, film and music industry experts, banks, venture capital firms and institutional investors, copyright lawyers, artistes and government regulatory agencies are expected at the summit.

175 Nigerians ‘voluntarily’ return from Libya

Another batch of One Hundred and Seventy-five (175) Nigerians voluntarily returned from Libya on Tuesday aboard a chartered Nouvelair aircraft with registration number TS-INA. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the aircraft landed at 7.50p.m at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The returnees were made up of of 34 males, 122 females, 10 children and nine infants. They were brought back by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian Embassy in Libya. FRSC deploys 33,000 personnel for Sallah

The Federal Road Safety Corps has approved the deployment of 33,000 regular and special marshals, 859 patrol vehicles, 106 ambulances, 267 motorbikes and 22 tow trucks for the 2017 Eid-el-kabir celebrations. This is to address wrong road usage by motorists which results in a high number of crashes during festivities. Police arrest 100 suspected robbers, others in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command yesterday paraded 100 suspected criminals for alleged robbery, child trafficking and cultism. Following increased criminal activities across the state, Police Commissioner Garba Baba Umar warned vehicle owners to stop covering their number plates and avoid using sirens. The police said the suspects were arrested at Nnewi, Awada in Onitsha, Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area as well as Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area. Some of the items recovered from them included charms, AK-47 rifles, locally-made pistols, machetes, axes, live cartridges, pump action guns and six rounds of 9mm live ammunitions. Amnesty trained 14,366 ex-agitators, says Boroh

The Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh has said about 14,366 ex-agitators were trained in the programme. Gen. Boroh spoke at News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja, yesterday. He explained their capacities has been developed in agriculture, automobile engineering, and aviation, with a further look at the sports sector. “As we speak, we have trained over 5,000 in education-capacity development, and over 22, 000 in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.” He said the programme granted amnesty to 30,000 ex-agitators of Niger Delta.
