U.S. Senators warn Trump against returning seized Russian diplomatic compounds

Three U.S. senators warned President Donald Trump against making any deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to return two seized Russian diplomatic compounds, a letter from the lawmakers showed.
Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Marco Rubio and Johnny Iakson gave the warning in their letter to Trump.
“The return of these two facilities to Russia while the Kremlin refuses to address its influence campaign against the U.S. would embolden President Vladimir Putin and invite a dangerous escalation in the Kremlin’s destabilising actions against democracies worldwide,” they said.
The senators wrote their letter ahead of a scheduled face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump on Friday on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hamburg.
Senior Trump administration officials have said that the two leaders could discuss the return of the two diplomatic compounds in the U.S. states of New York and Maryland.
But the three senators urged Trump to “remove the return of these facilities from any negotiation or consideration in your discussions with President Putin during your upcoming trip.”
Former President Barack Obama shut down the two compounds in December 2016, amid allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Russia denies meddling in the vote, insisting that it does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries.

Akwa Ibom to build industrial parks to boost seaport, gas free zone projects

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Iibom, says his administration will build industrial parks to boost activities at the envisaged Ibaka deep seaport as well as oil and gas free zone. Emmanuel said this on Tuesday in Uyo while inaugurating a 33/11KV electricity injection substation located at Edet Akpan Avenue by Nwaniba waterfall in the state capital. The governor said that constant electricity supply was germane to the takeoff of industrial parks slated for both Mbo and Ikot Abasi local government areas.   A privately owned radio broadcast station, Fresh FM 106.9 FM, Ado in Ekiti State, on Tuesday morning, banned the playing of songs by Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, from airing on the station till further notice. NSCDC arrest six for sale of unregistered SIM cards in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security  and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa Command says it has arrested six persons for allegedly selling unregistered SIM cards in the state. Mr Adamu Abdullahi, the command’s spokesman made this known to journalists in Dutse on Wednesday. Abdullahi said five out of the suspects were arrested on Hakimi Street and at New Market, Dutse, while other was held at Hadejia Town. He said the corps confiscated over 5,000 assorted SIM cards during the raid. The NSCDC spokesman assured the public that the corps would continue to stop the illegal sale and use of such SIM cards, stressing that illegal sale of SIM cards posed serious threat to national security. “These are the types of SIM cards used by insurgents, armed robbers, kidnappers and other criminals. “It is the mandate of the NSCDC to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, including the safeguard of all telecommunication facilities in the state,” he said. ROYAL SOCIETY AIMS TO BOOST NUMBER OF BLACK SCIENTISTS

  Young black scientists will get sizeable grants towards cutting-edge research in a pilot scheme aimed at increasing their numbers in the field. Five scientists a year will get up to £690,000 spread over four years. The Royal Society, which represents the UK's leading researchers, hopes its grants increase low numbers of black scientists, particularly in research. The fellowships  should allow the recipients to work in any of the country's research institutes. It will also mentor the scientists and help with career networking.
