Nigerian Film Corporation announces essay competition


The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has announced call for entry from qualified participants for its 2017 Annual Film Essay Competition under the upcoming Zuma Film Festival holding in Abuja between December 1 and December 5. The topic of the competition is, “Film as an Alternative to Oil in Wealth Creation and Employment”.
In a statement signed by Brian Etuk, the Corporation’s Head of Public Affairs, interested participants are to forward their entries in the following format; Arial Font, 14 point size, typewritten in double line space and should not be more than 15 pages on A4 size paper.
Entries opens on September 11, 2017 and closes on October 31, 2017 and participants must be Nigerian nationals between 18 years and below 25 years old.  Entries are to be submitted either in hardcopy, addressed to the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Nigerian Film Corporation, 218T Liberty Dam Road, Jos, Plateau State and clearly marked 2017 NFC ANNUAL FILM ESSAY COMPETITION and or through the e-mail essay comp2017@nigerianfilms.gov.ng.
The first, second and third best entries will win N250,000, N100,000 and N70,000 respectively. This is an addition to rights of publishing the winning essays in journals as may be deemed necessary.
The Annual Film Essay Competition had its debut in 2005. Several of its topic include “Motion Picture and the Nigerian Image”, – (2006)“The Nigerian Movie: Global Socio-Cultural Impact” – (2007), “The Role of Film as a tool for International Diplomacy” – (2008), “Building a Positive Global Board: The Place of Film” – (2009), “Film: A Tool for Socio-Cultural Integration and Tourism Promotion” – (2010), “Re-emergence of the Cinema, Impact on Local and National Economy” – (2012) and “Film, Family Values and the Society” – (2013).

How Nigeria can overcome global HIV cases in children – NASCP

$14.1b forex deals attract investors

Foreign investors’ confidence in the economy is rising. The feat is attributed to the $14.1 billion combined foreign exchange (forex) deals from the Investors’ & Exporters’ FX Window – I&E FX Window- and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) weekly dollar interventions,  The Nation  has learnt. The I&E FX Window has since April attracted $7.6 billion foreign investors’ cash into the economy. The CBN has injected nearly $6.5 billion into the economy within the period to settle forex obligations mainly at the retail end of the market. Last week, the CBN, in its drive to sustain the improved dollar liquidity, injected $100 million into the Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS) for spot and short tenored forwards not exceeding 60 days. Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. Uzodinma, who expressed displeasure with the managing director for not honouring the committee’s two previous invitations, said the information on the vessels was imperative and must be available within four days. SAN disagrees with Falana, insists Chief Judges can’t grant pardon

The debate over whether or not Chief Judges possess the power to grant pardon to awaiting trial detainees continued yesterday with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Sebastine Hon insisting the Chief Judges cannot legally grant pardon. Hon spoke in reaction to argument credited to human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) to the effect that Chief Judges can grant pardon under the Prisons Act and the Criminal Justice (Release from Custody) (Special Provisions) Act. Falana had, in a counter-argument, faulted Hon’s position, which was widely reported in the Media on Monday. But, in a detailed analysis Tuesday, Hon insisted on his position, arguing among others, that the laws cited by Falana were unconstitutional. NIMC chief faults identification system

NATIONAL Identity Management Commission (NIMC)  Director-General, Aliyu Aziz, has faulted the identification system, arguing that it cannot foster economic growth. To him, only the National Identification Number (NIN) has the key to the realisation of the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan (EGRP) of the government.
