Two Ondo delegates to Niger Delta summit die in road crash

Two delegates to the second meeting of the National Council on Niger Delta (NCND), hosted by Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, in collaboration with Ondo State government yesterday reportedly died in an auto crash on the Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.
Sources said the delegates, whose identities could not be ascertained, were travelling from Akure, the state capital, to Igbokoda, in the riverine area, for the summit, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Four others were reportedly injured in the accident, which occurred close to Agro Industry near Ode-Aye, a sleepy town on the Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.
Police spokesman Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident, saying it was caused by speeding.
He said three vehicles were involved in the fatal accident, adding that the vehicles were damaged beyond recognition.
The spokesman said bodies of the dead had been deposited at the morgue of the state specialist hospital at Okitipupa, where the injured victims are also receiving treatment.
Joseph added that the state government and the police were working hard to rescue the injured victims.

Airtel supports digital journalism training again

All is set for another digital journalism training sponsored by Airtel Nigeria under the aegis of The Journalism Clinic and facilitated by the widely-travelled digital journalism trainer, Dan Mason. Although 100 journalists will be trained this year, as was the case in 2015, this time around, data journalism will be added to the previous multimedia storytelling. Naira rebounds against dollar

The Naira on Tuesday, appreciated against the dollar at the parallel market. The Nigerian currency gained N2 to exchange at N365 to the dollar, stronger than N367 posted on Monday while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N475 and N433. Trading at the Bureau De change (BDC) window saw the Naira closing at N362 to the dollar, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N473 and N433, respectively. At the investors’ window, the Naira was sold at N359.67 to the dollar, while it exchanged at N305.8 to the dollar at the interbank market. Traders said patronage was low at the parallel market. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports BDCs got the weekly foreign exchange auction from the CBN.

EFCC blocks firms’ N116m

Armed with a court order, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has  blocked over N116million belonging to the  House of Representatives Minority Leader   Leo Ogor. The cash is the outstanding sum in the accounts of five of the six companies owned by Ogor with which he secured contracts from some agencies as constituency projects. Apart from the freeze order, the EFCC is looking into a “curious” payment  of over N318million  to two of the  companies  by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The  anti-graft agency is probing Ogor based on a petition against the House leadership by the suspended Appropriation Committee Chairman Abdulmumin Jibrin on alleged padding of 2016 Budget and insertion of bogus constituency projects.
