Two Ondo delegates to Niger Delta summit die in road crash

Two delegates to the second meeting of the National Council on Niger Delta (NCND), hosted by Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, in collaboration with Ondo State government yesterday reportedly died in an auto crash on the Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.
Sources said the delegates, whose identities could not be ascertained, were travelling from Akure, the state capital, to Igbokoda, in the riverine area, for the summit, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Four others were reportedly injured in the accident, which occurred close to Agro Industry near Ode-Aye, a sleepy town on the Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.
Police spokesman Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident, saying it was caused by speeding.
He said three vehicles were involved in the fatal accident, adding that the vehicles were damaged beyond recognition.
The spokesman said bodies of the dead had been deposited at the morgue of the state specialist hospital at Okitipupa, where the injured victims are also receiving treatment.
Joseph added that the state government and the police were working hard to rescue the injured victims.

Gunmen kill policeman, NSCDC operative in Bayelsa

Gunmen have killed a policeman and an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bayelsa State. The assailants, suspected to be sea pirates, attacked a team of security officials on Friday on Ekebiri Waterways in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. The attack came three weeks after suspected Niger Delta militants ambushed a houseboat operated by the Joint Task Force and killed a soldier and a civilian crew member. Confirming the latest attack, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Asinim Butswat, said a Tugboat, towing a barge with a combined team of policemen from the Nigerian Inland waterways, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, and civilians onboard was attacked by suspected sea pirates at about 6.45pm on Friday. A gastroenterologist, Dr Ganiyat Oyeleke, says it is possible for a patient to have an ulcer without pain, even as many victims experience severe pain in their stomach. Reps praise NIPCO for boosting downstream

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has commended NIPCO for its acquisition of ExxonMobil’s 60 per cent equity in Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc. According to the lawmakers, the acquisition has demystified the impression of International Oil Companies (IOCs) that it is difficult for indigenous oil companies to market petroleum products. Alleged N3.2b laundering: Ex-governor gets new trial date

THE trial of a former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu was stalled yesterday due to the absence of Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos. Justice Idris was said to be attended the ongoing judges’ conference in Abuja, which is held at the beginning of every new legal year. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) re-arraigned Kalu, Udeh Udeogu and Slok Nigeria Limited on 34 counts of laundering N3.2 billion. They pleaded not guilty. The alleged diversions were done between August 13,2003 and January 12, 2005, the prosecution said. The EFCC accused Slok of conniving with one Emeka Abone, said to be at large, to help Kalu retain the alleged stolen funds in its accounts. The offence is contrary to Section 17 (c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2003 and punishable under Section 16 of the same Act. The trial has been fixed for October 3 to 6.

Developer assures of Smart City’s adequate sewage control
