Two Ondo delegates to Niger Delta summit die in road crash

Two delegates to the second meeting of the National Council on Niger Delta (NCND), hosted by Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, in collaboration with Ondo State government yesterday reportedly died in an auto crash on the Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.
Sources said the delegates, whose identities could not be ascertained, were travelling from Akure, the state capital, to Igbokoda, in the riverine area, for the summit, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Four others were reportedly injured in the accident, which occurred close to Agro Industry near Ode-Aye, a sleepy town on the Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road.
Police spokesman Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident, saying it was caused by speeding.
He said three vehicles were involved in the fatal accident, adding that the vehicles were damaged beyond recognition.
The spokesman said bodies of the dead had been deposited at the morgue of the state specialist hospital at Okitipupa, where the injured victims are also receiving treatment.
Joseph added that the state government and the police were working hard to rescue the injured victims.

Eni has begun production from the integrated oil & gas development project in the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block, off Ghana’s western coast, two and half years, and three months ahead of schedule. According to the Deputy Division Manager, Lagos Liaison Office, Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited (NAOC), Eni’s arm in Nigeria, Tajudeen Adigun, the OCTP integrated oil & gas development is made up of the Sankofa Main, Sankofa East and Gye-Nyame fields, which are located about 60 kilometres off Ghana’s Western Region coast. The fields have about 770 million barrel of oil equivalent (mboe) in place, of which 500 million barrels of oil and 270 mboe of non-associated gas (about 40 billion cubic metres). 400 undergraduates get N60m in Shell scholarship scheme

Shell PetroleumDevelopment Company (SPDC) on Thursday awarded N60 million in scholarship awards to  400 indigent undergraduates from Abia, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers States. The undergraduates, who are  studying in different universities across the Niger Delta  region, received a cheque of  N150,000 each as scholarship for the 2015/2016 academic session. Mr Igo Weli, SPDC General Manager, External Relations, said at the award giving ceremony in Port Harcourt that the SPDC-JV-sponsored scholarship scheme  was for indigent undergraduates of its host communities. Forces against push for sugar self-sufficiency

The Federal Government plans to achieve self-sufficiency in sugar. It targets domestic production of 1.7 million metric tonnes of sugar by 2020, to, among others, halt the yearly loss of about N350 billion to importation of the product and create jobs. Ilogbo residents urge Amosun to fix road

Residents of Ilogbo and its environs have urged Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun to fix the road from Love bus stop (Tipper Garage) on Atan-Idiroko Road, leading to Ilogbo. Their spokesman, Mr. Clement Ade Eleyinmi, said the road had become a death trap. He said: “We thank Governor Amosun for developing Ogun State. But some areas have been neglected. They don’t have good roads and other basic amenities, such as hospitals, police stations, markets, filling stations, etc. “Ilogbo and neighbouring towns and villages are neglected. Our road is in a deplorable condition. Minister: skilled ICT manpower gap widening

The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, has lamented the widening gap in skilled manpower in the information communication technology (ICT) sector in the country. He said expatriates have virtually taken over the tech space in the country. Shittu, who spoke at the inauguration of an Implementation Committee on the proposed ICT University of Nigeria, in Abuja,  said it has become imperative to have the university to leapfrog the country into a digital economy. The Committee has six weeks to submit its report so that the university can begin academic activities in the next session.
