Lawyers: IPOB’s funding can be blocked diplomatically

Lawyers yesterday said the federal government can block the funding of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) through diplomatic means. The government had said IPOB gets its funding from France, which it described as the group’s international headquarters. But France denied having anything to do with the secessionist group. Director-General of West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), Prof. Akpan Ekpo, urged the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to track financial flows to IPOB. He said the agency should work closely with all core regulators of financial, other-financial institutions, designated non- financial businesses and professions to ensure that funding for IPOB is blocked. Nigerian Enamelware doles out 12.67m bonus shares

Nigerian Enamelware Plc has distributed 12.672 million ordinary shares of 50 kobo each as bonus shares to its shareholders, proportionately increasing the shareholdings of shareholders without any cash payment. The bonus shares were issued by the company by capitalising its reserves, drawing about N6.34 million from its retained earnings to pay for the newly issued shares. The bonus shares were distributed to shareholders for one new ordinary share for every five ordinary shares held by each shareholder. The additional shares have been listed at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), thus increasing total outstanding shares of the company to 76.032 million ordinary shares of 50 kobo each.

You Can Have An Ulcer Without Pain – Gastroenterologist

A gastroenterologist, Dr Ganiyat Oyeleke, says it is possible for a patient to have an ulcer without pain, even as many victims experience severe pain in their stomach. Dr Oyeleke, a consultant at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), revealed this when she appeared on  Channels Television’s  Health Matters. “Some people do not experience pain when they have an ulcer, it happens in some cases,” she said. but some could have “But some could have bloating, that is the feeling of fullness in the tummy. ‘Release El-Zakzaky and wife to us’

An advocacy group, Concerned Nigerians has requested that the leader of Nigeria’s Islamic Movement,  Ibrahim Yaqoub El Zakzaky be released to them. The group further accused the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, of falsehood over the present welfare and accommodation of the outspoken Shi’a Muslim cleric. This is contained in a statement signed by the Convener, Deji Adeyanju and Secretary to the group, John Danfulani. The Senate on Thursday passed the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill, 2017, the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports. The bill was passed following the adoption of a report of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment on the Bill. Presenting the report, Chairman of the committee, Sen. Fatima Raji-Rasaki, said the bill would help to develop businesses in Nigeria. She said that when assented to, the bill would promote fair, efficient and competitive markets in the country. “This bill seeks to facilitate access by all citizens to safe products and secure the protection of rights for all consumers in Nigeria,” she said.
