Kaduna declares KASU-ASUU strike unlawful

Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Friday declared as unlawful the strike embarked on by the Kaduna State University (KASU) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). According to a statement by the Governor’s Spokesman, Mr Samuel Aruwan, the KASU branch of ASUU confirmed that the branch had joined the nation-wide strike as full members of the national union. He said that there was no trade dispute between the state government and ASUU. “This is unacceptable to the state government. Trump owes banks $315m

United States of America President Donald Trump’s net worth initially put at $10 billion during his campaign for White House now appears to have been overblown. Latest disclosure puts his wealth at $1.4 billion and personal liabilities of at least $315.6 million to German, U.S. and other lenders as of mid-2017. Trump, according to a federal financial disclosure form released late on Friday by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, had roughly $20 million in income from his new marquee Washington hotel. The hotel opened just down the street from the White House last September. Saraki urges all to be calm over new school curriculum

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has urged all stakeholders in  education to remain calm on the new nine-year Basic Education Curriculum to enable the National Assembly to look into various issues involved. Saraki made the call while receiving a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday. He assured the delegation that the Senate Committee on Basic Education would investigate the complaints by the association on the curriculum with a view to making it acceptable and satisfactory to all religions. 8 Nigerian weightlifters set for world championships

Secretary-General of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Abdullahi Libata on Tuesday in Abuja said eight weightlifters were set to represent the country at the World Weightlifting Championships in France in August. Libata told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the lifters, comprising three male and five female ones, were currently training in their various states. He said the players had gained qualification to the event after their participation in the African Championships in Morocco last year. “Blessing Oborodudu, Amina Adeniyi, Genesis Mercy, Gofit Winnie and Adekuroye Odunayo are the female athletes, while the male ones are John Ogbonna, Dressman Kemesuodei and Tamaro Soso,’’ the NWF secretary-general said. He however said next week’s inauguration of the Federation’s new board would determine where the players would stay for the closed camping phase of their preparation for the event.
