Lassa Fever kills pupil in Jos

One pupil of the Federal Government College, Langtang, Plateau State, has died of Lassa fever. Two others have been hospitalised. Commissioner for Health Kuden Deyin, who confirmed this to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday, said: “Yes, there was an outbreak of Lassa Fever at the Federal Government College, Langtang; it has claimed one life, while two others are in the hospital.” According to him, four pupils were rushed from the school clinic to the Jos University Teaching Hospital. “The pupils showed symptoms of Lassa Fever and we immediately took their blood samples to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where three tested positive. “One of those who tested positive is dead, while the other two are still on admission at JUTH,” he said. Deyin said the government had met with the school principal and advised her to halt resumption from the mid-term break. ISAN chief: Protesters at Oando AGM were not shareholders

Contrary to some media reports, the protest that occurred outside the venue of Oando’s Annual General Meeting held in Ibom Hall, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday,  was carried out by non-shareholders. National Coordinator of the Independent Shareholders Association of Nigeria (ISAN), Sir Sunday Nwosu, who attended the AGM alongside other members of ISAN, and stakeholders in the capital market including representatives of the Securities and Exchange Commission, stated that no genuine shareholder of Oando Plc was among the protesters. Nwosu noted that the protesters, who chanted outside Ibom Hall for about 15 minutes, dispersed after he engaged them and advised that they write officially to Oando’s Company Secretary if they had genuine complaints. Agitations symptom of rot in Nigerian system – Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto,  Saad Abubakar, said on Tuesday that ongoing agitations in the country are symptoms of rot in the Nigerian system. Abubakar stated this in Sokoto when Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, paid him Sallah homage. The Sultan said: ”In the past, a lot of things were done by some people with impunity and nothing was done. ”That is why you find lack of good governance now weighing us down now in the country. ”However, as it is now, no matter how bad your hand is, you cannot cut it and throw away.” Abubakar called for dialogue to resolve all the misunderstandings and problems in the country. ‘Firm to assemble electric cars by 2020’

A private entity, Nigus, has concluded plans to assemble electric vehicles  in the coun–try by 2020. Its Chairman, Prince Malik Ado Ibrahim, who made this known in Abuja at the weekend, said he was pushing this line of investment to save Nigeria from becoming a dumping ground for hydrocarbon vehicles in the future. He said the company would begin with importation of the cars next year, before the eventual manufacturing phase that would follow thereafter. Before then, Nigus plans to import the vehicle by the end of next year.
