Brazil to lift meat trade restrictions- WTO chief

Brazil is engaged in World Trade Organisation(WTO) committee talks aimed at eliminating any potential barriers to poultry and pork exports. The meeting is in line with an upcoming summit in December, the next opportunity to advance agreements benefiting its farm exports, the head of the WTO said. Brazil has proposed the adoption of scientific criteria related to sanitary standards in the food trade in a WTO committee, Director-General Roberto Azevedo told a conference on Tuesday. Brazil and the European Union have an interest in advancing talks to reduce subsidies distorting trade, although no agreement is in sight yet, he added. The EU, Brazil and three other Latin American countries introduced a WTO proposal in July aimed at reducing farm subsidies. “For it to be possible to reduce subsidies it is necessary that all countries change. Otherwise it is like unilateral disarmament,” Azevedo said. The WTO will hold a ministerial conference in Buenos Aires in early December. ...

Akwa Ibom to build industrial parks to boost seaport, gas free zone projects

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Iibom, says his administration will build industrial parks to boost activities at the envisaged Ibaka deep seaport as well as oil and gas free zone. Emmanuel said this on Tuesday in Uyo while inaugurating a 33/11KV electricity injection substation located at Edet Akpan Avenue by Nwaniba waterfall in the state capital. The governor said that constant electricity supply was germane to the takeoff of industrial parks slated for both Mbo and Ikot Abasi local government areas. He said that some investors were ready to invest in the state as soon as they were sure of conducive environment for their investments. “Our duty is to put Akwa Ibom state on the threshold of full industrialisation. Rivers East district has no senator, says Wike

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said Rivers East has no senator. He spoke yesterday at  a Thanksgiving Service for Senator George Thompson Sekibo, at the St Thomas Anglican Church in Diobu. Sekibo was sacked from the National Assembly by the Court of Appeal last week. He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of destroying key national institutions. MOHBAD: FRESH-FM BANS NAIRA MARLEY SONGS

  A privately owned radio broadcast station, Fresh FM 106.9 FM, Ado in Ekiti State, on Tuesday morning, banned the playing of songs by Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, from airing on the station till further notice. The radio station disclosed this in a post shared on its Instagram handle (@freshfm1069adoekiti) and signed by its Head of production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams. The ban follows the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, popularly known as MohBad, and criticism surrounding Naira Marley. Earlier, on Monday, a radio broadcast station, Splash FM 105.5 Ibadan, Oyo state, banned the playing of songs by Naira Marley. Amnesty trained 14,366 ex-agitators, says Boroh

The Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh has said about 14,366 ex-agitators were trained in the programme. Gen. Boroh spoke at News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja, yesterday. He explained their capacities has been developed in agriculture, automobile engineering, and aviation, with a further look at the sports sector. “As we speak, we have trained over 5,000 in education-capacity development, and over 22, 000 in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.” He said the programme granted amnesty to 30,000 ex-agitators of Niger Delta. Gen. Boroh said from now till December 17, more ex-agitators would be graduating from the scheme. According to him, its education programme is winding down and there is need to graduate more beneficiaries.
