NAF chief celebrates sallah with troops in Yola

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on Monday hosted officers and men of the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole in Yola, Adamawa, to a lunch to mark the Eid el-Fitr.
Addressing the troops, Abubakar said the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had recorded several successes in the fight against insurgency.
He said, “I felt it necessary for me to be here to celebrate with you and to also express the appreciation of NAF and indeed the Commander-in-Chief to all of you for what you have been doing.
“We are very happy with the efforts you are putting in and we have achieved so much.”
He said more aircraft would be provided, particularly for training and courier service, to fly personnel between Yola and Maiduguri as well as other NAF stations nationwide.
“The idea is to make you have some form of contact with your family wherever they are,” the NAF chief added.

FG to end gas flaring soon – Presidential aide

The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), said on Friday the Federal Government would soon introduce a programme aimed at ending gas flaring in the region. Boroh spoke during the inauguration of a water project in Gelegele-Gbene community near Benin in Ovia North East local government area of Edo. Boro said the programme, tagged “National Gas Flaring Commercialization Programme” would generate about 36, 000 direct jobs and 200, 000 indirect jobs in the Niger Delta. He said the gas would be harnessed for cooking, electricity and other industrial uses, adding that government had identified 48 sites for the first phase of the programme. FG budgets $4million for population control

The federal government has set aside $4 million to tackle family planning, child and maternal health in the 2018 budget, it was learnt yesterday. Chairman of The Association for Advancement of Family Planning, Dr Ejike Orji, stated this at a media round table at the National Population Commission (NPC) headquarters in Abuja. A member of the group, Dr Kole Shettima, lauded the federal government for allocation. He said it was critical to the sustenance of maternal and child health programmes in the country. Shettima noted the increased funding would also ensure greater accessibility to health services for women. He pointed out that family campaign has been attracting support from Canada and Scandinavian countries, following threats by American President Donald Trump to withdraw funding for the programme. Operation Python Dance 2 takes off in Abia

The Army’s Operation Python Dance II has taken off in Abia state. The take off in Umuahia the state capital, was at the 14 Brigade Tactical Headquarters. It was witnessed by heads of security agencies in the state including Director, Department of State Service, the Comptroller of Immigration, the Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, the Special Adviser to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on security and the Chief of Staff, and officers of the 14Brigade. Ilogbo residents urge Amosun to fix road

Residents of Ilogbo and its environs have urged Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun to fix the road from Love bus stop (Tipper Garage) on Atan-Idiroko Road, leading to Ilogbo. Their spokesman, Mr. Clement Ade Eleyinmi, said the road had become a death trap. He said: “We thank Governor Amosun for developing Ogun State. But some areas have been neglected. They don’t have good roads and other basic amenities, such as hospitals, police stations, markets, filling stations, etc. “Ilogbo and neighbouring towns and villages are neglected. Our road is in a deplorable condition. The Community Development Association (CDA) is appealing to our amiable and hardworking governor to send his representatives to inspect this road, in order to repair it. We pray that your tenure will end successfully.”

Five million benefit from Niger Delta Amnesty’ – Boroh

•Boroh lists gains of initiative since 2009 Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme,  Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh,  has said over  five million people in Niger Delta have benefited from the initiative  since 2009. Gen. Boroh, who is the special adviser to the President on Niger Delta, spoke in Akure  shortly after receiving an award as Niger Delta Peace Ambassador from the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ), Ondo State council. Businessman lauds Ayade for establishing cocoa processing factory

Cross River State governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has been commended for setting up a cocoa processing factory in Ikom Local Government Area by Mr. Chris Agara, the Chairman of A.A Universal Agro Industries Limited. Agara told reporters in Calabar that the project, which has reached an advanced stage, would boost cocoa production in the state when completed. According to him, the factory, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018, would be processing over 30,000 metric tons of cocoa annually. Agara, who said he has been supporting the growth of the project, added that the initiative was borne out of his desire to promote cocoa production in the state.

Executive Secretary, Benue State Teaching Service Board, Dr. Wilfred Uji, has called on the Federal Government to constitute the National Commission for Secondary Schools. Uji made the call during an advocacy visit by members of the Local Organising Committee for this year’s International Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors, (ANA). He lamented that the reduction of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut-off marks from 180 to 120, clearly shows serithe ous decay in the education system.  If constituted, therefore, the commission would identify numerous challenges confronting post-primary schools with a view to tackling them headlong.
