‘Nigeria Karate athletes will feature at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics’

The newly elected President Karate Federation of Nigeria, Mallam Silas Agara on Friday said aggressive machineries are in place to ensure that Nigeria features at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Agara emerged president after the incumbent Chief Donatus Ejidike stepped down for him at the Abuja National Stadium on Tuesday.

The deputy governor of Nasarawa noted that his board members will out in their best, hit the ground running and implement programs that will put Karate on the world map adding that Nigeria must be represented at the 2020 Olympics.

“One of our tasks is to see that Karate is at the Olympics with quality representatives there. That is one task we want to carry one. The new board under my leadership as the President with competent Nigerians from other zones will put in our best and I can assure the sport family that we’ll hit the ground running and implement our programs to ensure we put karate on the map” .

He revealed that the new board will not depend on funds from the Federal Ministry of Sports.

“Funding is a challenge to all the federations’ even football. We have to look inward and outward to see how we can raise funds to implement our programs”.

“We’ll not be depending on the ministry of sports but look elsewhere by task ourselves as individuals reaching out to the private sector. The only time the ministry will play impact is for them to provide certain logistics support will enable us have the platform to drive our program” said the deputy governor.

The deputy governor commended the sports minister, Solomon Dalung for creating a level playing ground for contestants.

He thanked the ministry for providing a level playing ground for contestant and urshed a new dawn for other sports in the country.

175 Nigerians ‘voluntarily’ return from Libya

Another batch of One Hundred and Seventy-five (175) Nigerians voluntarily returned from Libya on Tuesday aboard a chartered Nouvelair aircraft with registration number TS-INA. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the aircraft landed at 7.50p.m at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The returnees were made up of of 34 males, 122 females, 10 children and nine infants. They were brought back by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Nigerian Embassy in Libya. Father sexually assaults daughter for seven years in Kano

A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of one Ibrahim Mohammed, 56, in prison custody, accused of having sexual intercourse with his daughter for seven years. Ibrahim, who lives at Hausawa Quarters Kano, is standing trial on a two-count charge of procuring minor and incest. The prosecutor, Insp. Aluta Mijinyawa, told the court that the accused began to sexually assault the girl in 2010 when she was just seven years old. He said Ibrahim had been having sex with the minor since the death of her mother in 2010, adding, “the victim was seven year’s then, now a 14-year-old girl.” Mijinyawa further told the court that the girl, having now grown up “to know what is good and bad,” resisted the father, who threatened to harm her. The prosecutor told the court that the girl reported the father at Metro Police Station in Kano. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 275 and 390 of the penal code. Killer pastor still in custody – Police

Reacting to speculations that a pastor arrested for the alleged abduction and murder of a baby girl last week in Calabar, Cross River, has been released, the state police command said on Tuesday the suspect is still in custody and would be charged to court. The pastor of God’s Commandments Ministry along Atamunu Street, Calabar, Mr. Tony Obo, was arrested last Thursday for allegedly abducting and killing a one- year- and -seven month old baby, Success, for ritual purposes. The police said items recovered from the pastor included a human heart suspected to be that of the abducted baby, some charms, fetish items and pictures of various persons among others. FRSC deploys 33,000 personnel for Sallah

The Federal Road Safety Corps has approved the deployment of 33,000 regular and special marshals, 859 patrol vehicles, 106 ambulances, 267 motorbikes and 22 tow trucks for the 2017 Eid-el-kabir celebrations. This is to address wrong road usage by motorists which results in a high number of crashes during festivities. Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. Uzodinma, who expressed displeasure with the managing director for not honouring the committee’s two previous invitations, said the information on the vessels was imperative and must be available within four days. Pensioners condemn agitations for breakup

THE Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has asked those agitating for the country’s break up to stop and join hands with the government to promote unity. The union appealed to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for the payment of the outstanding 18 months of 33  per cent pension arrears following the signing of the budget.
