8 Nigerian weightlifters set for world championships

Secretary-General of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Abdullahi Libata on Tuesday in Abuja said eight weightlifters were set to represent the country at the World Weightlifting Championships in France in August.
Libata told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the lifters, comprising three male and five female ones, were currently training in their various states.
He said the players had gained qualification to the event after their participation in the African Championships in Morocco last year.
“Blessing Oborodudu, Amina Adeniyi, Genesis Mercy, Gofit Winnie and Adekuroye Odunayo are the female athletes, while the male ones are John Ogbonna, Dressman Kemesuodei and Tamaro Soso,’’ the NWF secretary-general said.
He however said next week’s inauguration of the Federation’s new board would determine where the players would stay for the closed camping phase of their preparation for the event.

Uba debunks PDP defection

Sen. Andy Uba says he has not defected from  the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the outcome of the Anambra governorship primaries. Uba, who is from Anambra South made this known to newsmen at his country home, on Tuesday. He debunked  reports making the rounds that he planned to dump the APC for a new party. Ilogbo residents urge Amosun to fix road

Residents of Ilogbo and its environs have urged Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun to fix the road from Love bus stop (Tipper Garage) on Atan-Idiroko Road, leading to Ilogbo. Their spokesman, Mr. Clement Ade Eleyinmi, said the road had become a death trap. He said: “We thank Governor Amosun for developing Ogun State. But some areas have been neglected. They don’t have good roads and other basic amenities, such as hospitals, police stations, markets, filling stations, etc. “Ilogbo and neighbouring towns and villages are neglected. Our road is in a deplorable condition. The Community Development Association (CDA) is appealing to our amiable and hardworking governor to send his representatives to inspect this road, in order to repair it. Minister: skilled ICT manpower gap widening

The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, has lamented the widening gap in skilled manpower in the information communication technology (ICT) sector in the country. He said expatriates have virtually taken over the tech space in the country. Shittu, who spoke at the inauguration of an Implementation Committee on the proposed ICT University of Nigeria, in Abuja,  said it has become imperative to have the university to leapfrog the country into a digital economy. The Committee has six weeks to submit its report so that the university can begin academic activities in the next session. Fed Govt begins construction of estates in 33 states

The Federal Government has commenced the construction of mass housing projects in 33 states. To actualise the project, it plans an upward review of mobilisation funds for contractors up to 50 per cent to enable emerging contractors in the building sector deliver their projects satisfactorily. The minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who disclosed this at the sixth meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, told delegates at the event that with ongoing housing projects, the government had fulfilled the commitment it made at the 2016 council meeting by 90 per cent. “At the time of the council meeting in August 2016, I reported that we were finalising designs to accommodate our cultural, climatic and other diversities.
