8 Nigerian weightlifters set for world championships

Secretary-General of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Abdullahi Libata on Tuesday in Abuja said eight weightlifters were set to represent the country at the World Weightlifting Championships in France in August.
Libata told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the lifters, comprising three male and five female ones, were currently training in their various states.
He said the players had gained qualification to the event after their participation in the African Championships in Morocco last year.
“Blessing Oborodudu, Amina Adeniyi, Genesis Mercy, Gofit Winnie and Adekuroye Odunayo are the female athletes, while the male ones are John Ogbonna, Dressman Kemesuodei and Tamaro Soso,’’ the NWF secretary-general said.
He however said next week’s inauguration of the Federation’s new board would determine where the players would stay for the closed camping phase of their preparation for the event.

You Can Have An Ulcer Without Pain – Gastroenterologist

A gastroenterologist, Dr Ganiyat Oyeleke, says it is possible for a patient to have an ulcer without pain, even as many victims experience severe pain in their stomach. Dr Oyeleke, a consultant at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), revealed this when she appeared on  Channels Television’s  Health Matters. “Some people do not experience pain when they have an ulcer, it happens in some cases,” she said. but some could have “But some could have bloating, that is the feeling of fullness in the tummy. Mendy Signs For Lorient After Being Cleared Of Rape

  Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has signed for Ligue 1 side Lorient five days after being cleared of rape. The left-back, 29, whose City contract expired in the summer, has signed a two-year deal with the French club. He was  cleared of raping a woman  and attempting to rape another at Chester Crown Court on Friday. That followed a trial in January when Mendy was  cleared of six counts of rape  and one of sexual assault. Akwa Ibom to build industrial parks to boost seaport, gas free zone projects

Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Iibom, says his administration will build industrial parks to boost activities at the envisaged Ibaka deep seaport as well as oil and gas free zone. Emmanuel said this on Tuesday in Uyo while inaugurating a 33/11KV electricity injection substation located at Edet Akpan Avenue by Nwaniba waterfall in the state capital. The governor said that constant electricity supply was germane to the takeoff of industrial parks slated for both Mbo and Ikot Abasi local government areas. Three-day TRNSMT festival at Glasgow Green to open

The three-day TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow is to start later with a Friday line-up of acts including Radiohead and Belle and Sebastian. Doors to the event at Glasgow Green will open at 14:00. TRNSMT is being held on what was traditionally the weekend of the T in the Park festival, which is not taking place this year. Other bands appearing over the weekend include include Kasabian, Biffy Clyro and The Kooks. The acts will play across three stages at Scotland's newest music festival, with highlights being broadcast every evening on a BBC Scotland programme presented by Edith Bowman. Lawyers: IPOB’s funding can be blocked diplomatically

Lawyers yesterday said the federal government can block the funding of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) through diplomatic means. The government had said IPOB gets its funding from France, which it described as the group’s international headquarters. But France denied having anything to do with the secessionist group. Director-General of West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), Prof. Akpan Ekpo, urged the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to track financial flows to IPOB. He said the agency should work closely with all core regulators of financial, other-financial institutions, designated non- financial businesses and professions to ensure that funding for IPOB is blocked.
