Carpenter with toy gun jailed 12 months

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, yesterday sentenced a carpenter, Chinonso Eze, to 12 months’ imprisonment, for possessing a toy gun and knife at a public place.
Eze, 32, of Gwagwa, by Tasha 1, Abuja, was convicted following his guilty plea to charges of attempting to commit an offence and escape from lawful custody.
The Judge, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced him to six months in jail on each of the two counts.
He said the punishment would have been more severe, if the carpenter had wasted the court’s time and allowed a trial.
Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Florence Avhioboh, told the court that a police patrol unit, led by Abbah Gabriel, arrested Eze, about 12:25 am., on September 1.
She said he was arrested at an ATM Gallery at Jabi, Abuja, in possession of a toy gun and knife.

Uba debunks PDP defection

N760.17b refund: NLC to name indicted governors

Labour laments 5% payment to consultants WORKERS are angry with governors who blew their state’s share of the N760.17 billion Paris Club loan refund. President Muhammadu Buhari’s comment on how states failed to pay salaries despite the huge cash injection has provoked the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).  It is threatening to “name and shame” governors who failed to spend the refund on salaries and pension. Besides,  the President should demand that the governors account for the money before any further release is made to them, the NLC said yesterday. Nigerian Enamelware doles out 12.67m bonus shares

Nigerian Enamelware Plc has distributed 12.672 million ordinary shares of 50 kobo each as bonus shares to its shareholders, proportionately increasing the shareholdings of shareholders without any cash payment. The bonus shares were issued by the company by capitalising its reserves, drawing about N6.34 million from its retained earnings to pay for the newly issued shares. The bonus shares were distributed to shareholders for one new ordinary share for every five ordinary shares held by each shareholder. The additional shares have been listed at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), thus increasing total outstanding shares of the company to 76.032 million ordinary shares of 50 kobo each.

Top ‘Boko Haram terrorist’, Aliko, arrested

A suspected Boko Haram terrorist, Aliyu Ahmed, alias Aliko is now in army custody following his arrest in Bauchi State. Army spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, confirmed yesterday that Ahmed was arrested on Friday by troops of 33 Brigade, following a tip-off in Yuga village in Toro Local Government Area of the state, where he has been in hiding. The army also said it intercepted four child traffickers and 19 under aged children in Yobe State. “He was found to be in possession of one single barrel gun and one Dane gun. “During preliminary interrogation, he confessed that he actively participated in several Boko Haram terrorists’ attacks and also owned an AK-47 Rifle which he lost during one of the attacks they carried out in 2016. “His interrogation continued,” Usman said. A former  Minister of Information, Prof Jerry Gana is to deliver the 9th convocation lecture of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, scheduled to hold on October 12. Mr. Alvan Ewuzie, a Senior Assistant Registrar, Public Relations, said this in a statement in Ibadan yesterday. Melaye’s recall: INEC yet to get court ruling, goes ahead with process

The Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC) yesterday said it is going ahead with the timetable for the recall process for Senator Dino Melaye because it has not been served any court ruling or process. The recall process is expected to begin on Monday. Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja had on Thursday rejected Melaye’s ex-parte motion for a temporary injunction to restrain the INEC from proceeding with the recall process. Tsoho only asked the parties to maintain the status quo pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice. Plateau State governor, Simon Bako Lalong, has appealed to the federal government on the completion of abandoned power projects across the state so as to stimulate economic activities in the state.
