EGBEMA/Gbararmatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF), an interventionist agency based in Delta state, has applauded the federal government for its commitment to the taking off of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta state. Its Chairman, Comrade Jude Ukori, who made the commendation in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri, noted that by this pronouncement the federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a sustained peace and development of the Niger Delta region especially the coastal areas that bears the brunt of the oil and gas production.
He enjoined the government not to stop at just making the pronouncement but fast track the entire process of the take off of the institution so that it could meet up with the new academic session and meet all the requirements to enable it the standards expected in the training of middle and professional man power in the maritime sector. He said: “We the people of Egbema and Gbararmatu in Warri South West and Warri North Local Government Area of the state are indeed very grateful to the federal government for taking the initiative to commence the process of the taking off of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko.
This would no doubt go a long away in boosting the socioeconomic lives of people not only in the area but the entire region. “We wish to plead that this process does not end with mere pronouncements but backed with action geared towards accelerating the take off of the institution to meet up with the growing demands in the maritime industry in terms of supplies of both middle class and professionals that would be well trained in all fields”.
