WAFU: ‘Win-win’ for domestic football says LMC

The League Management Company (LMC) has commended players and officials of the Super Eagles squad to the just ended West African Football Union (WAFU) just as the LMC has described the tournament as a ‘win-win’ for domestic football in Nigeria and the entire West Africa.
The players were drawn from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) organized by the LMC.
 According to the LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko who was at the finals on Sunday, said he was impressed by the determination from  the players that saw them come from the brink of ouster at the group stage to reach the finals.
“Winning the trophy would no doubt have been delightful, but the LMC is happy for the exposure the players have gained from playing in an international tournament of this nature and more importantly, it is a learning curve for them ahead the 2018 CHAN”, stated Dikko.
Dikko also noted that the tournament has offered the players and coaches more time to bond and understand each other as compared to when they were just invited to camp to play for the CHAN qualifiers, adding, “It is our belief that a lot has been learnt on the side of the coaches and on the side of the players.
Whatever gaps were observed at the WAFU tournament will be the tool to improve the team going forward”.
Nigeria were beaten 4-1 by hosts, Black Stars of Ghana in the final of the resuscitated regional football tournament for countries of West Africa under the umbrella body, WAFU. Other countries that reached the second round group fixtures after the knock-out series were Guinea, Niger, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast and Benin Republic.

Family accuses police of obstructing justice over Lagos property

…Police: Possession was taken illegally  The family of a former Head of Service in Lagos, the late Mr. C.O. Bajulaiye, has accused the police of denying its members access to their late father’s house in spite of a court judgment authorising them to take possession. The family had approached the Lagos Magistrates Court in a bid to recover the property from a tenant, a company. Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. Uzodinma, who expressed displeasure with the managing director for not honouring the committee’s two previous invitations, said the information on the vessels was imperative and must be available within four days. Pensioners condemn agitations for breakup

THE Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has asked those agitating for the country’s break up to stop and join hands with the government to promote unity. The union appealed to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for the payment of the outstanding 18 months of 33  per cent pension arrears following the signing of the budget. Rivers East district has no senator, says Wike

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said Rivers East has no senator. He spoke yesterday at  a Thanksgiving Service for Senator George Thompson Sekibo, at the St Thomas Anglican Church in Diobu. Minister: skilled ICT manpower gap widening

The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, has lamented the widening gap in skilled manpower in the information communication technology (ICT) sector in the country.
