BSN donates 1,000 Bibles to Lagos Police

THE Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has donated customised 1,000 bibles to the Lagos Command of the Nigeria Police.
Speaking at the event, which held at the Police College Chapel on Sunday, the Society’s General Secretary Richard Dare Ajiboye, said the objective of the donation was to boost evangelism among policemen, adding that the Bible is a weapon members of the force could deploy to succeed in their work.
He said: “We are here to contribute our quota to equipping you with the spiritual weapon to succeed in your enormous task of policing the country. As you go about your work of protecting lives and protecting, you will also need the Word of God to guide you and to help bring others to the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.’’
Last year, he said, the BSN donated Bibles worth N17.1million to some groups as part of its Free Bible Distribution scheme and 2,000 Bibles to the Nigerian Army.
Chaplain of state Police Command, Venerable Omolaja Abiodun, a DSP, praised BSN management for the gesture. He recalled that when he chanced on a customised copy of the BSN Bible, the Fellowship led a delegation to the Society to request for a similar Bible. ‘’This gift is indelible in our hearts. It will help save our families,’’ he said. He said when one led a policeman to God, he would be saving a nation from calamity, adding: ‘’No one remains the same after an encounter with the word of God.’’

$14.1b forex deals attract investors

Foreign investors’ confidence in the economy is rising. The feat is attributed to the $14.1 billion combined foreign exchange (forex) deals from the Investors’ & Exporters’ FX Window – I&E FX Window- and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) weekly dollar interventions,  The Nation  has learnt. The I&E FX Window has since April attracted $7.6 billion foreign investors’ cash into the economy. The CBN has injected nearly $6.5 billion into the economy within the period to settle forex obligations mainly at the retail end of the market. Last week, the CBN, in its drive to sustain the improved dollar liquidity, injected $100 million into the Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS) for spot and short tenored forwards not exceeding 60 days. Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. Uzodinma, who expressed displeasure with the managing director for not honouring the committee’s two previous invitations, said the information on the vessels was imperative and must be available within four days. NIMC chief faults identification system

NATIONAL Identity Management Commission (NIMC)  Director-General, Aliyu Aziz, has faulted the identification system, arguing that it cannot foster economic growth. To him, only the National Identification Number (NIN) has the key to the realisation of the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan (EGRP) of the government. Impact of $3b bond on debt ’ll be modest

T he Federal Government’s plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills, if approved, will have a modest impact on broad debt sustainability indicators, experts at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC Nigeria) have said. In line with Federal Government’s debt management strategy to rebalance its debt portfolio for domestic and foreign debt, from the current 69 per cent: 3 1 per cent to a targeted 60per cent: 40 per cent, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved a plan to issue USD3 billion worth of foreign bonds of up to three years maturity to refinance maturing naira-denominated treasury bills. $2.1b arms scandal: Fleeing ex-governor loses choice hotel in Singapore to mistress
