One of Nigeria’s pioneer female computer scientists, Princess (Mrs.) Eunice Anike Oni (nee Ajiboye), has passed on. She died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 11, 2017, aged 70 years.
She was born in Emure-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on August 18, 1946 to Prince Benjamin Akintola Ajiboye and Olori Abioye Ajiboye. The late Oni attended St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School, Emure-Ekiti and Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, Ondo State.
She also attended New York University and Oklahoma State University in the United States of America. She worked in the University of Ibadan Computer Center from 1971 to 1982 and transferred her service to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State where she worked from 1982 to 2004 – from where she retired from active service.
She was a pioneer member of the Computer Association of Nigeria and the Nigeria Red Cross. She is survived by her husband, Emeritus Professor Adeduro Oni, children and grandchildren.
