NCC arrest four over sale of Pre-registered SIM cards

The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Tuesday in Dutse, Jigawa state arrested four black-market SIM card dealers over their involvement in selling pre-registered SIM cards to the public.
According to NCC’s Head of Enforcement Unit, Mr. Salisu Abdu who spoke to Reporters in Dutse, over 70 pre-registered SIM cards of various service providers were recovered during a raid that was conducted at Hakimi street and New Market street in Dutse.
He said the operation was as a result of a tip-off over the illegal activities of SIM card dealers in the state, adding that the suspects have already been handed over to security agents for further investigation.
Abdu explained that the raid on the two identified areas by his men and security agents took them over two hours to clampdown on the hideouts of the illegal dealers.
He, however, called on service providers in the country to be cautious on how they issue SIM cards to the public, pointing out that unscrupulous individuals use fake names and bio-data to secure SIM cards through proxy, “which is criminal and fraudulent.”
According to him, “these pre-registered SIM cards are usually used to commit crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, Obtaining By Tricks, and other vices that are now prevalent in the society.
“NCC has asked operators to provide a system how registered SIM cards will be coordinated in such a way that anybody using pre-registered SIM card can be easily traced and apprehended.
“We insist on this because going after these sellers of pre-registered SIM cards have remained a herculean task, but we must continue to clamp down on these illegal dealers.
“We have had a lot of engagements with service providers on this issue of selling pre-registered SIM cards to the public, because NCC is a regulatory.
“We call on Nigerians to stop buying pre-registered SIM cards to avoid being involved in criminal activities, because when you buy these cards and start using them, you can be traced by security agents and that means you have gotten yourself in trouble.”

175 Nigerians ‘voluntarily’ return from Libya

Another batch of One Hundred and Seventy-five (175) Nigerians voluntarily returned from Libya on Tuesday aboard a chartered Nouvelair aircraft with registration number TS-INA. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the aircraft landed at 7.50p.m at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Father sexually assaults daughter for seven years in Kano

A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered the remand of one Ibrahim Mohammed, 56, in prison custody, accused of having sexual intercourse with his daughter for seven years. Ibrahim, who lives at Hausawa Quarters Kano, is standing trial on a two-count charge of procuring minor and incest. The prosecutor, Insp. Aluta Mijinyawa, told the court that the accused began to sexually assault the girl in 2010 when she was just seven years old. He said Ibrahim had been having sex with the minor since the death of her mother in 2010, adding, “the victim was seven year’s then, now a 14-year-old girl.” Mijinyawa further told the court that the girl, having now grown up “to know what is good and bad,” resisted the father, who threatened to harm her. Killer pastor still in custody – Police

Reacting to speculations that a pastor arrested for the alleged abduction and murder of a baby girl last week in Calabar, Cross River, has been released, the state police command said on Tuesday the suspect is still in custody and would be charged to court. The pastor of God’s Commandments Ministry along Atamunu Street, Calabar, Mr. Tony Obo, was arrested last Thursday for allegedly abducting and killing a one- year- and -seven month old baby, Success, for ritual purposes. FRSC deploys 33,000 personnel for Sallah

The Federal Road Safety Corps has approved the deployment of 33,000 regular and special marshals, 859 patrol vehicles, 106 ambulances, 267 motorbikes and 22 tow trucks for the 2017 Eid-el-kabir celebrations. This is to address wrong road usage by motorists which results in a high number of crashes during festivities. Senate gives NPA four days for information on 282 missing vessels

The Senate on Thursday, gave the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Usman, four days to explain the whereabouts of over 282 vessels allegedly missing from the sea ports. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Chairman, Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Marine Transport, gave the ultimatum in Abuja, at an investigative hearing on N30 trillion lost through leakages in Customs and other agencies. Amnesty trained 14,366 ex-agitators, says Boroh

The Coordinator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh has said about 14,366 ex-agitators were trained in the programme. Gen. Boroh spoke at News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja, yesterday.
