I have no interest in Benue funds – Akume

Former Benue State governor and Senator  Sen. George Akume, has stated that he has no interest in amassing personal wealth to compete with world class billionaires like Alhaji Aliko Dangote even when he served as governor of Benue State for eight years.
Akume stated this yesterday when he received coordinators of the Ortom /Abounu Campaign Organisation, now Akume Ambassadors, in the 23 local government areas in Benue State. The former chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum stated that he had several opportunities to amass personal wealth and own oil wells in the country, especially during the tenure elongation saga of former President Olusegun Obasanjo but chose to stand by the people and wondered why he should now deviate from this path of selfless service after making so many sacrifice for the sustenance of the nations democracy.
He urged members of the Akume Ambassadors, most of who occupy key offices in the present administration, to give their total loyalty and commitment to the success of the Ortom-led administration in their various offices adding that all well meaning supporters of the All Progressives Congress must put their hands on deck to ensure the success of Governor Samuel Ortom whose failure means that of all members of the party in the state.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Dr. D.D Tamen, stated that the forum was in Akume’s house to appreciate him for his firm support for Governor Samuel Ortom which did not only ensure his emergence as governor but has helped the government achieve major feats even in the face of numerous financial challenges and called for its sustenance for the governor’s re-election in 2019.
The group also appreciated the senator for facilitating the appointment and employment of many of their members.
